Throughout this semester, I explored on how volume and form could be both functional and imaginative. I found myself inspired by the repetition of geometric shapes, and thinking about how light could influence a project to change the tone of the piece. By primarily using a pastel color palette, my pieces evoke a child-like imagination, which helped the volume of the pieces to not be too loud. While I have a lot of knowledge in 3D Space due to my heavy interest in 3D Animation, it was fun to play around and explore pieces in the physical world. I’m eager to take some of the things I learned from this semester and see what I can create in the 3D world :)

Project 2: Frankenstein

For this project we had to create a clay sculpture piece composed out of objects that were sculpted on their own. I took inspiration from a leaf, crystals off a perfume bottle and a little bowl. Once the clay pieces were created on their own, we then put it together to make a single piece. We also had to add 3 different textures to the sculpture, so I made a circular texture on the leaf, carved my doodle pattern onto the bowl, and added holographic sticker paper onto the crystals to help them shine!

Project 1: Column

For this project we had to create single design that could be repeated 7 times in total to create a tower. We also had to be able to stack it two different ways, all within a single structure. For my project, I focused on creating an optical illusion through the use of negative space. I also made a very geometric box, so no matter what angle you look at the column it stays relatively similar.

Project 3: Skins, Shells and (Exo)skeletons

For this project we had to create a plush creature made out of at least five different body parts. I decided to go big, and create a big flying squirrel. I wanted to create something functional, so I decided on a cat bed for my two cats. Not only did I want my cats to be able to lay on it, but I wanted to be able to fold the squirrel’s arms to create blanket so they’ll be tucked in. I used both my sewing machine and hand sewed some parts onto the body.

Project 4: Wooden Machine

For this project we had to create a wooden box that not only moved with human interaction but also had to have a narrative story. For my box, I created a little scene centered around Electric Forest (a music festival). I wanted the box to look like the Sherwood Forest sign entrance, and have both a “day” and “night” feel to it. For the movement of the box, when you rock the crank back and for the feathers will move up and down- almost looking like the owl is flying!
